Match Report: Stamford vs. Boston United, 19th Jul 2011

Stamford started off the home pre-season campaign with a 2 2 draw with a good Boston United side. The starting line up included 5 new signings Gavin Saxby, Michael Jacklin, Chris Gray, Danny Steadman and Sam Mullarkey. The game started with a few early efforts from both sides with ex Daniel Adam Milsom having a shot from the edge of the area for Boston going just over the bar and Dan Cotton seeing his 20 yard run and shot go narrowly wide of the visiting goal.

The first goal came after 8 minutes Boston were awarded a free kick near the dugouts and Jason Fields arrowed ball found Ryan Semple who turned Nick Jackson just inside the Daniels penalty area to fire home low into Saxby’s right hand corner. Boston had another good chance after quarter of an hour with some good play between Milsom and Suarez on the edge of the box seeing the ex Daniels shot hitting the inside of the post and rebounding out to safety.

Stamford then hit back with some good work just before Dean Oliver fired the leveller, Sam Mullarkey received the ball on the left wing and showed some good close control to beat his man and lay the ball back to Nick Jackson whose chipped cross was well controlled by Oliver who turned and beat another ex Daniel Liam Parker to score a well made goal to the keepers left.

Boston’s second came with ten minutes to go in the first half after a scramble on the edge of the area, where the ball was missed by several defenders, the ball fell kindly to Semple who shot through the crowd from the edge of the penalty area.

The second half saw several changes with Daniel Barrett, Gary King, Andy Toyne, Jake Gibson, Danny Brookes and Stuart King all coming on. Stamford had several good chances with Dan Cotton’s free kick deflecting off the wall narrowly wide and Gary King and Gibson interacting well together on the left with Gibson forcing a good save from the Boston goalkeeper Drury.

The equaliser eventually came with 10 minutes to go Barrett received a short ball from Gibson, turned about 35 yards out and pulled off an outrageous chip which left Drury in the Boston goal with no chance. During the last 10 minutes Gary King had several chances denied by some good saves from the keeper and in the last minute Saxby was quickly down at his near post to pull off a good save to keep the score level.

Overall a draw was a fair result with Stamford playing some good football and creating plenty of chances.
